The town hall of Portbou, the last place of Costa Brava before France, gave us the opportunity to make calligraphy murals during La Festa del Grafisme the week of the 12th of september.

The project began with the study of the spots available, we visited a couple of times beforehand to take pictures and measure the walls, and also, to analize the conditions for writing on them.

Next step was the selection of the texts, a thorough search of book fragments, poems, songs and so on. Texts that would motivate us and above all fit on Portbou’s public space. We chose texts in various languages: spanish, french, english and catalan. Authors being Mercè Rodoreda, Alessandro Baricco, H.P. Lovercraft, Joan Salvat Papasseit, Cristina Peri Rossi, Lao-Tse, etc. Then with started with the sketches, compositions, choosing letters and colors, once all that got decided we took our brushes and paint and got to work.

we finished in time for our presentation on saturday, where we showd the magazine for the first time. You can read it more about it here.

If you have a spot where you think Nibster could cover with letters, get in touch and we’ll talk about it.
