Finding a firm foundation upon which to build is a common challenge among fledgling calligraphers. Most of us, when exploring a new skill, have this unspoken fear of doing something wrong and unintentionally hindering ourselves somewhere down the road. We might fool ourselves into believing that the the more ‘established’ individuals we look up to never made mistakes on their rise to excellence. Surely, they never developed bad habits that they had to unlearn… Right? We forget that everyone crawls before they walk. We forget that some of our most valuable lessons in life were miserable failures.
